Why is Google Docs SO SLOW to respond to my typing???
1
I have been using google docs for writing on novels and short stories recently to better share with my fellow writers. Most of the time the lag speed on typing (which I think is due to the constant auto save) is not an issue since I am thinking as I write. HOWEVER, when I am on a good roll, my wpm jumps from about 30 to 120, and the document just cannot keep up with me. I don't have this issue with any other program online or off. I have noticed the issue goes away when I go offline (hence my suspicion of the auto save function) but I do not want to write offline for various reasons (streaming music, brainstorming with fellow writers, spontaneous research online).
My browser is up to date. My os is up to date. I have tried restarting my everything. I'm pretty tech savvy, so the basics have all been checked at this point. If I could just ADJUST THE AUTO SAVE TIME PLEASE, I'm pretty much 90% sure this would resolve the issue for me. Open to other suggestions though.
Also, not using any extensions or third party programs. The help system keeps trying to direct me to a similar issue where a user was running Grammarly or something.
This is driving me nuts especially in the middle of a hot writing roll! 35 Thousand Words last week!
EDIT: I tried going offline, and while it helped, I still noticed a distinct lag when typing quickly/excitedly. This sucks. Please help.

Hi,
Google Docs has a size limit for files. The average page of text contains about 3,000 characters. If you have a 100,000+ word document, you have vastly exceeded the limit of 1.02 million characters. That is why your document isn't working properly. In addition, all the changes you've made over time that are stored in the document's history are bloating it even further.
There isn't any way to remove document history from a Docs file. The only way that can be done is to make a copy of the document. In addition, the only way to break your current document into smaller files is to create several (at least four or more) new documents and copy/paste portions of your oversized document into them and work with the smaller files from now on.
Google Docs doesn't store backups locally -- it is strictly a web-based app. If you want to store files locally on your computer, you would need to use another product.
